Today I did the second activity for day 3 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to write a Pepeha about us. We were given a sample pepeha, so I chose to use the ones in there that I knew.
My pepeha:
Ko Maungarei maunga The mountain that I affiliate to is Mount Wellington
Ko Tamaki te awa The river that I affiliate to is Tamaki
Ko New Zealand ahau I am from New Zealand
Ko Jeffrey rāua ko Alison ōku mātua My parents are Jeffrey and Alison
Ko Jack tōku ingoa. My name is Jack
Hi Jack,
ReplyDeleteRuby here from the Summer Learning Journey team! It's great to see you have been tracking through these activities so well. Well done!
Great work with your pepeha. I think it's important to know our pepeha so we can acknowledge our whakapapa and also understand ourselves a bit better. It can be tricky filling in some of those gaps though!
What I use for my iwi (tribe) is the Irish because this is where my family comes from and the people I identify with. For my hapu (sub-tribe), I use Simpson because that is the name of my family and they're who I am close to. Perhaps you could use those ideas to add the hapu and iwi sections into your pepeha?
I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
Cheers,
Ruby.
Hello Jack
ReplyDeleteWell done on completing this summer learning journey activity. Your pepeha so far is looking great. I also didn't know what to put for some of the parts in the pepeha. Keep up the amazing work Jack!
