Today, I did the first activity for day 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to find three facts about Maui's giant fish. This is a well known Maori story, and it has become today's activity. We had to find these facts from This Site, and then had to blog all three.
Fact 1: Maui is well known for catching one of the biggest fish ever seen. Although his brothers never thought he would catch even a bit of seaweed! Maui showed them otherwise, he had used an ancestors jawbone, and his own blood as bait.
Fact 2: After Maui had caught this humongous fish, he told his brothers to stay by the fish, and to guard it as he went to alert his village people. Instead, as Maui left the two brothers alone, they rapidly attacked the fish, claiming chunks of it as their own. Once Maui had arrived back, he, and other people saw the greedy brothers.
Fact 3: After centuries of time, this fish eventually became the land known as the North island of Aotearoa, and Maui's canoe became the South island.
Hey Jack!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Summer Learning Journey! It's awesome that you're blogging with us these holidays. I hope you'll enjoy the programme!
I love your thoughtful comments about Maui that summarise what you have learnt about him and the story. It absolutely was a humungous fish to be the size of the North Island!
Well done, Jack!
Nicky :)
Greetings Jack
ReplyDeleteI really love how your work is very big and long which I really love. I hope you are having lots of fun... KEEP IT UP!!
Hello Jack
ReplyDeleteWell done on completing the first summer learning journey activity. I wonder why the brother started cutting off bits of the fish for themselves - Maui probably would have given them some. Keep up the amazing work Jack.
