CARE Awards: Silver Attitude | Tutoring Someone Who Needs Help With An Extra Skill

For my next CARE Award activity, for my Attitude, I created a slideshow that showed Ofa's improvement over the year after giving him a helping hand with his art and DLO's. The first slide will show where Ofa began in his soon to be drawing pathway. It all started with a DLO that Ofa needed some assistance with. So what I did was give Ofa a template where he could add his own details. This included a body, facial details, and the option for me to help him at any point of time. After a little while Ofa became more dependant on his ability to have a bunch of creativity. And managed to create this DLO. In this DLO, he only needed me to see what he could change. The final slide shows a single frame of an entire animation that he created himself. It shows the side view of a body explaining how the human body breathes. He can now create digital art on his own, and rarely needs my assistance.

CARE Awards: Silver Attitude | Created With My Teacher

For the final activity for my Silver Attitude CARE Award, I chose to do the created with my teacher activity. For this activity, what I chose to do was teach my teacher Mrs Anderson. What may that be you may ask? Well I taught Mrs Anderson how to green / blue screen using the iMovie application. This application allows you to as well as green / blue screening different videos and images, create movies. The way I taught her how to edit was by using our class film entry for this year’s Manaiakalani Film Festival. A time to showcase almost every classes learning over the year all throughout Manaiakalani schools. The movie that our class created was a documentary style movie teaching people about the history of the Panmure Bridge. This movie, Alex, Sanujan, Mrs Anderson, Mr Wong and I spent about half of term 3 planning, recording, and editing. It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed learning about all of the history involved in the Bridge that I cross everyday to get to school. Mrs Anderson had never used iMovie to green / blue screen before, so she wanted to learn how.  Although I did not teach her alone. I had Sanujan by my side making sure that I was directing her correctly. In the end Mrs Anderson was a master at green / blue screening, and added plenty of new touches to make this movie the best it could be. Hopefully next year, we can do an awesome movie like this again.

CARE Awards: Silver Attitude | Why Is It Important To Have A Positive Attitude?

Today, I completed the next activity for my Silver Attitude CARE Award. For this activity, I had to create a video the showed the importance of having a positive attitude. Although rather than creating a video, I instead created a presentation so that anyone could view it at their own pace. In the presentation, I came up with 3 rules that you should follow to have a positive attitude yourself. If you follow these 3 rules as much as possible then you will be a master of having a positive attitude. I had a lot of fun doing this activity, and I hope that the next activity I choose to do will be not too challenging, although i'm always up for new and exciting activities.

CARE Awards: Silver Attitude | Teaching The Class

For the last two weeks on a Friday, Alex, Miki, Sanujan and I taught our class. What did we teach them you may ask? We taught them how to draw, and will be running classes each Friday afternoon. In these lessons, there will be two session running at once. The expert sessions, and the beginner sessions. Sanujan is teaching the expert group, and giving them a few challenges, while Miki, Alex and I are teaching the beginners, and running them through the basics. We have gone through 2 sessions now, and both of which have gone right on track. The first session went great, we set up our groups, and got right to teaching. We started off by testing their skill. We all asked them to find a cartoon image of a rock on Google, and to trace the outline. Although before we did that, we made sure to teach them one thing. That thing being how to tell which tool to use when tracing. We taught them that you use the curve tool for curved edges, and the polyline tool for straight edges. We then set them off. We gave them around 20 - 30 minutes to complete their drawing, and would then review what they had done. The second session went just as great. We ran through a few reminders, and let everyone draw what they want as practice. Although this has not been it. Not too long ago, Alex, Sanujan, Mrs Anderson and I all visited Tamaki College to teach these same things to older students. This task was just as fun as teaching who we already knew. It was fun hanging out with these students, and getting to know what they liked through what they drew. Hopefully we can continue all of these animation classes, and find new ways and techniques to teach anyone who is willing to learn digital art and animation.

CARE Awards - Silver: Attitude | Represent The School At An Outside Function

For my first challenge for my Silver Attitude CARE Award, I noticed a blogpost I could create as a part of my challenges. Represent the school at an outside function. I found this one quite challenging, as I couldn't think of anything I could do for this. Although after a bit of thinking, I remembered just one thing I could do. The Someday Workshop that I had taken part in. I have already done a blogpost for this Here, although with this blogpost, I will add a bit more detail. As I got across in the previous post about this, I missed school because of this, and visited Mount Smart Stadium to make a movie. I was the only one from Panmure Bridge School doing this, and this was also my first time doing it, so I wasn't the most confident person there. It started off by testing our imagination. Everyone participating would grab a cardboard card from off the floor, and explain to everyone else why they chose that specific card. Maybe the colours, the name, but most importantly, what ideas you could come up with the card. The card I had chosen was asking for help. I had chosen this card from the first thing that popped into my head when seeing it. Now I knew that after all of this prepping up, that we would begin filming with a group, so I instantly came up with a movie idea. I thought of a young child, with dyslexia. He would struggle with learning, and never fit in. That he would get help by someone, allowing him to face his fears, and appreciate who he is. I thought this would be a good, but complex idea. Although to my surprise, it was the idea my group went with. We then spent the rest of the day (2 and a half hours) filming it, and having at least an hour to edit it. The time was set, and so we began. We started by getting our equipment. In the end we used my camera as a secondary view, another persons camera as the main camera, and a microphone for the voicing over I would do. Next came our roles, Faith and Miranda as the camera operators, Faith also as the editor, Lucy as a main character, and finally me, as Sam, the dyslexic kid. We all had a lot of fun working on this movie together, and getting to know each other. With every scene came a series of laughter, joy, and getting along. Although after hours of movie making, we were done. It then came to screening the movies. It started with a movie about a kid who got bullied, followed by a movie about a kid who never ate his fruit, and finally, our movie came. We were glad that best was saved for last. As much as we enjoyed our movie, the other movies were enjoyable to watch just as much. This was an amazing opportunity that I was given, and I hope to do something like this again.

Care Awards: Silver Respect | Getting My Badge

Today at assembly, I got my silver respect badge. To get this badge, I needed to do 5 different activities, and have them checked by a student leader, a teacher, and finally Mr Johnston. Once checked off by a teacher and leader, I needed to book an appointment with Mr Johnston, and explain all of what I did to him. I then needed to wait until assembly, to get my badge, and have my photo taken.

Silver C.A.R.E Award: Respect | Demonstrating Respect With Pictures

Today, I did my final Silver Respect C.A.R.E Award challenge. For this challenge, we needed to take photos of us being respectful. We then needed to put the pictures onto a google drawing, or presentation, and add a description of both, what we're doing in the picture, and how you can do the same. The amount of pictures that I took was 5, and I took them with a Canon Ixus 185 Powershot Camera.

Silver C.A.R.E Awards: Respect | Picture Collage Of PBS

Today, I did a C.A.R.E Award activity for respect. For this activity, we needed to make a collage of PBS. A collage is a series of pictures of the same category, put together. Although, now that the week has just finished, I decided to instead draw pictures of my experience when going to school. You can see in the first picture that I'm walking to school with my bag on, the next picture is of me working on my computer, and the final picture is of me playing handball at lunch and morning tea. I really liked this activity. I got to show my art, my perspective of an average day, and made an actual collage for the first time so far. This activity took roughly half an hour to complete, and I think I did relatively well in the end.

Silver C.A.R.E Awards: Respect | Making Dinner For Your Family

Wednesday night, I did a respect C.A.R.E activity. For this activity, we needed to make, and serve dinner to our family. So what I made, was a bacon and egg pie. To make this dish, you need bacon, egg, 4 squares of pastry, milk, tomato, mixed herbs, olives, capsicums, and salt and pepper. First, spray cooking spray onto tray, and apply pastry to the bottom off a tray. Next, place extra pastry half way up the sides of the tray. Thirdly chop up all ingredients, and sprinkle on pastry. After this, crack 6 eggs, and spread it's contents around the pastry. Next, place salt and pepper over ingredients, and add a top layer of pastry. Squash top layer of pastry with bottom, to join it all together. If there is any leftover pastry, you can cut it into small pieces, and decorate the top of your dish. After that, brush some milk over the top of your pastry, and put it in the oven for 35 - 45 minutes at 190 - 200 degrees. Make sure to check it every once and a while, and once done, serve it, and eat up. Also, try adding a side of carrot and cucumber. Now you're all done.

Silver C.A.R.E Awards: Respect | A Thank You Letter

Yesterday, I wrote a thank you letter to Mrs Anderson. I had done this because she really did help me a lot, and I wanted to thank her. Although a small bit of it was because it was a Care Award activity, I still did it to thank her. How she had helped me, was by explaining where to put my Care activities once I had finished, and how to inform her that I'd completed a challenge.

Silver C.A.R.E Award: Respect | Making A Brochure About PBS

Yesterday, I finished a C.A.R.E award activity. The activity that I did was to make a brochure about working at PBS, and this activity was for my Respect badge. For this brochure, I had 3 segments. 1 having the question, what's the perks of PBS, with my answer. The second having the question, how well does everyone get along, with my answer. Ending with the question how the students treated. I really liked this activity, it gets children showing their opinion of school, and really sparks their creativity.
