KiwiSport: Tennis | Session 2

Today we had the next session of tennis for Kiwi Sport. In today's lesson we focused completely on learning how to volley. A volley in tennis is where you hit the ball before it hits the ground. We learnt how to volley by throwing the ball to our partner and doing rally's where we would count how many volleys we could do with our partner. Unfortunately no photos were taken of me or my partner so instead I have grabbed a photo of professional tennis player Roger Federer doing a volley.

KiwiSport: Gymnastics

Yesterday we had our next session of KiwiSport this term which is gymnastics. In yesterday's lesson we did our usual floor rotations, although to mix it up we learnt a few poses, and we learnt how to properly mount the beam. We had 3 different floor rotations, upper body strength, balancing, and then a mix of different techniques. I had a lot of fun yesterday at gymnastics, and personally my favourite activities were doing dive rolls after bouncing on the trampoline, and then handstand rolls.

KiwiSport: Gymnastics

Today we had our second session of gymnastics for our KiwiSport for term 2. Today, we had new rotations, and different challenges. This includes back rolls, 1 leg handstands, star jumps, 180 jumps, and a few extra stretches. I managed to do each task, and I had a lot of fun. Our instructor Steve is doing a great job instructing us, and I believe that everyone is enjoying the lessons.

KiwiSport: Week 5

Today, we had our week 5 session of KiwiSport. Our KiwiSport this term is Ki o Rahi. There are two teams in the game, the Taniwha, and the Ki o Ma team. One teams role is to defend the rock, while their team mates run around the island hitting each pou pole with a ball. The other teams job is to hit the rock with another ball to stop the person running. Although today, we learnt a new part of Ki o Rahi. The kicker. The kicker will start the game off by kicking the ball to the Kai Tiaki, and then running back to the line where they will wait for their turn to run. If the Kai Tiaki catch the ball, then the ball is given to Ki o Ma. Then it came to playing a game. Like the first week, we played Golden Child. We had a lot of fun this week, and I hope that next week, we can play again.

KiwiSport: Week 3

Today, we had our second session of Ki o Rahi. For this lesson we learnt how the game of Ki o Rahi works, and played a game of golden child to understand where each team goes. There are two teams in the game, the Taniwha, and the Ki o Ma team. One teams role is to defend the centre, while their team mates run around the circle hitting each pou pole with a ball. The other teams role is to hit the centre with another ball to stop the person running. Although if you are playing Ki o Rahi in the style of golden child, then the running team will have one final person who is called the Golden Child, and they then run around the circle, and when they pass someone frozen they follow along. We had a lot of fun today playing golden child, and are all excited to play the real game of Ki o Rahi next week.

Kiwisport: 3 Session Of Rippa Rugby

Today, we had kiwisport. This week for rippa rugby, we did a whole bunch of things. The first thing we did was simply play a game of octopus with rippers. We had played 3 games of this altogether, and we had an incredible amount of fun. The next activity we did was a few real games of rippa rugby. There were 3 teams altogether, so there always needed to be a team on he side line. For the last activity, we got into our groups, and had a little passing challenge. We needed to run in groups of 3, 1 person in each group. Then we would pass that ball to the person to our right. We did this a few times, until the session came to an end. We had a lot of fun in this activity, and the others, and I personally cannot wait for the next session.

KiwiSport: This Week's Badminton Session

This week for kiwisport, we learnt a new tactic when playing in a badminton rally. This tactic is the same as the tactic we learnt last week which was forehand lift, but instead, this time we had to do it with backhand. So this one would be called backhand lift. We then got with a pair, did backhand lift 5 times each, then played 1v1 and 2v2 rallies against other pairs. I enjoyed this weeks badminton session, and I think next weeks session (The last one) will be awesome.

KiwiSport: Badminton Session

This week for kiwi sport, we learnt something new for badminton. The new technique we learnt was called a forehand lift. A forehand lift is when you hit the shuttle in forehand grip, but tilt your wrist back a bit so that you hit it upwards, sending it behind your opponent. This is a very helpful strategy when playing in a rally. We also played a couple of rallies against a partner. My partner for this was Julian, I chose him, because I know that he has had quite a lot of experience in badminton, just like me. We had a lot of fun for this badminton session, and I hope next week's will be just as awesome.

KiwiSport: Our First Badminton Session

This week for KiwiSport, we had our first Badminton session. Our coach / teacher was a man named Kevin, and he did a really well job at teaching us. We learnt 4 things during this session, and they were our fore-hand grip, our backhand grip, and two small trickshots. This was a really fun lesson this one, probably one of the best KiwiSport lessons that I've taken part in. Although this was a really fun session, it was quite a challenge since I've injured my knee. We were also given challenge. For this challenge, we had to see how many times we could juggle the shuttlecock (Meaning how many times we could hit the shuttlecock without it falling). I really really enjoyed this KiwiSport session, the main reason being that Badminton is my favourite sport.

KiwiSport: KiwiSport Week 6

This week for KiwiSport, we learnt about how to properly jump when doing high jump. We learnt the skills, scissor kick action, slightly bent knees, toes pointing up, left arm left leg right arm right leg, and to have our arms going high up. First we started practising our skills over painted lines on the courts, and then we went to the next step. Jumping over mini high jump poles. We could chose how high we wanted the rod to jump over, and I decided to challenge myself by almost going to the highest the rod can go. Me, and the other people that went to a high settings made it over the bar, and we all cheered on each other to try it.

KiwiSport: Run Jump Throw

Today we did our KiwiSport for week 5. This week our focus was about the way we jump. We learnt that when you jump you have your legs in line with your shoulders, swing your arms back, and look straight. Although before we could do any of that, we played octopus as a warm up. I enjoyed this weeks KiwiSport session. We all learnt a lot about the correct way to jump, and hopefully we'll remember for next time.
