Summer Learning Journey: Week 1 : Day 4 | Activity 3

Today I completed the third activity to the fourth day of week one to the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, our challenge was to come up with a hotel of our own, think of where to build it, and what to build it out of. Also, for an additional 5 points, we could draw one of the rooms in our hotel using Google Drawing or pencil / pen and paper.

Details: If I could build a hotel of my own, I would have it built in Auckland city, as it would be a go to hotel for for tourists, as it would let them get a gasping view at such sights as the Sky Tower. Although I didn't want my hotel to be constructed with standard materials. Instead something unique. So I chose for my hotel to be made out of titanium.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 4: Week 1 | Activity 2

Today I completed the second activity for day 4 of the first week of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to create a blogpost telling people what our favourite food is, and how to make it.

My favourite food is bacon and egg pie. My mum and I make it together, and I love both preparing it, and eating it. The steps are listed below.  To make this dish, you need bacon, eggs, 4 squares of pastry, milk, tomato, mixed herbs, olives, capsicums, and salt and pepper. First, spray cooking spray onto tray, and apply pastry to the bottom off a tray. Next, place extra pastry half way up the sides of the tray. Thirdly chop up all ingredients, and sprinkle on pastry. After this, crack 6 eggs, and spread it's contents around the pastry. Next, place salt and pepper over ingredients, and add a top layer of pastry. Squash top layer of pastry with bottom, to join it all together. If there is any leftover pastry, you can cut it into small pieces, and decorate the top of your dish. After that, brush some milk over the top of your pastry, and put it in the oven for 35 - 45 minutes at 190 - 200 degrees. Make sure to check it every once and a while, and once done, serve it, and eat up.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 4: Week 1 | Activity 1

Today I completed the first activity for day 4 of week 1 for the Summer Leaning Journey. For this activity, we needed to set ourselves in the situation that we were interviewing Sir Edmund Hillary. During the interview we could ask any 5 questions to him. What would we ask him?

1. Did you ever think that you would make a name for yourself by such a great achievement?
2. What did you miss most from home when climbing?
3. What motivated you to push yourself to such an extreme mission.
4. Was there any inspiration leading to this challenge?
5. Was the trip exciting, or was it terrifying knowing how dangerous the climb could be?

Summer Learning Journey: Day 4 BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to listen to 3 performances, and rate them from best to worst. Now, all of these performances were good, but this is only my opinion.

1. Te Puku o Te Ika Because this one in my opinion was all in sync, and had a nice tune to it.

2. Tamatea Arikinui Because this one had a good sync to it, but not as much.

3. Te Iti Kahurangi Because this one added a lot of suspense, but that wasn't enough to change where I would put this.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 4 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to find a Maori game, and talk about 3 things.
1. What's the name
2. Your goal
3. Two rules
The game that I found was a game called Poi Toa tag. Your goal for this game is to eliminate all players. To play, you need to all have a Poi, and try to hit everyone else with your Poi to get them out. Once you're hit, you're out.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 4 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day 4 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to listen to a bunch of Waiata's (Maori Songs), and choose the one that we liked the most, and explain why. I listened to quite a few songs, and found this song. I couldn't find the name for the song, but a link to the YouTube video is Here. I like this song because it has instruments as well as singing, and has a really nice tune to it.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 4 | BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day three of the holiday blogging challenge. For this activity, we had to look at what activities that're being held this holidays at the Auckland Museum. What I did for this task was go on the Auckland Museum Website, and look around for any activities that are coming up this holidays. One that I found was about World War 1. It is an activity for children that let them experience what it was like to be a soldier in WW1. Although, we had another task to complete as well. For the second task we had to create a 5 photo exhibition, and the exhibition that I chose to make was a Photography Exhibition.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 4 | Activity 2

Today I did te second activity for day 4 of the holiday blogging challenge. For this activity we had to find out some facts about the parade that the Auckland Museum does each year. We had to find out when the parade is held, why the Auckland Museum does this parade, and we had to record our answer on a Vocaroo recording.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 4 | Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day 4 of the holiday blogging challenge. For this activity, we had to visit the Auckland Museum Website, and find three facts. These facts we needed to find interesting, and we needed to explain why we found them interesting. To get this information, we had to watch a few videos that explained the events that happened throughout World War 1.

Fact 1: Austro Hungary declared war on Serbia supported by Germany, then the Russians declared war on Austro Hungary supported by France. Once Germany invaded France through Belgium, and then came the British, until all countries were included in this war making it a world war. I find this interest because it started by one war with Austro Hungary against Serbia, and then became each country.

Fact 2: At one point, the Turkish waved a white flag. They requested one day free to clean the body's of theirs. I find this interesting because usually, I thought waving a white flag meant that you were surrendering, not anything else.

Fact 3: Once ANZAC's were leaving, they had to put sandbags on their shoes so that there wouldn't be any noise. I found this interesting because it is a really smart way to leave, and something that I probably would have never come up with.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 4 | BONUS ACTIVITY

For the bonus activity of day 4 for the Winter Learning Journey, we had to make our opinion whether we think fishing in Farewell Spit should be banned. I think it shouldn't unless people are using nets, killing fish without eating them, and only catching about 12 a month maximum.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 4 | Activity 2

For the second activity of day 4 for the Winter Learning Journey, we had to watch the two trailers for the old Maori movie Whale Rider. We had to write a small description about the movie, and then rate it our of five.

Description: It's about a girl named Paikea whose brother who was supposed to be the next chief of a Maori tribe dies at birth. Only men are allowed to be chief of their Maori tribe. Paikea doesn't agree and wants to win over her grandfather Rawiri Paratene.

My Rating: I give this movie a 4 out of 5 and would some day want to watch it.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 4 | Activity 1

For the first activity of day 4 for the Winter Learning Journey, I learnt about the recent whales that were beached (Swam to the shore and got stuck). Our activity was to visit a site that talked about what happened, and on our blogs we had to describe what people did and saw.

People could see so many whales all across the shore, birds all around them, and many people trying to save them. It's said it was "like a grave yard with 300 dead whales". A lot of the whales were bleeding, and running out of water to keep them from becoming dead. People tried to save them by poring water over them and their blowholes.
