Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 : Week 2 | Activity 3

Today I completed the third activity to day 2 of week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to visit this website HERE and choose 2 different plants to find 3 similarities, and 3 differences between the two. The two plants I chose was the baseball plant, and the white baneberrry plant.

Similarities:    1. They are both toxic     2. They both have an average height under 100cm.      3. They both last only a few years on average.

Differences:   1. Only the Baneberry plant has berries growing on it.     2. The Native Americans used the White Baneberry plant as poison.     3. The baseball plant grows flowers while the White Baneberry does not.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 : Week 2 | Activity 2

Today I completed the second activity for day 2 of week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to think of someone that we think is tough and strong, and what they mean to us. The person that I chose was my mum. She isn't strong physically, although she is never scared to have a say, she puts up with many things every day, and she has gone through many ups and downs, and has always kept a smile. She cares for me, and the rest of my family. She does everything to make sure there is food on my plate, I am healthy, and that I get plenty of rest every night. I love my mum, and i'm so happy that I have her.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 : Week 2 | Activity 1

Today, I completed the first activity for day 2 of week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to watch This Video of somebody weaving some flax to create a fish. We then needed to create a blogpost explaining whether we would like to try flax weaving, if it interests us, and why or why not.

Yes I would one day want to try flax weaving. It does interest me, and I believe that it would make a great hobby. I find it interesting, as I remember when I was young, I saw someone weaving some flax, and I was amazed at how this large bit of flax was made into a beautiful flower.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1 : Day 2 | Activity 3

Today I completed the 3rd activity to day 2 of the first week of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we are set in the scenario that we have a cactus and have to give it 3ml's of water every day for a whole year. Our job is to calculate how much water that would take in millilitres, and give an explanation.

Answer: 1095ml of water.

Explanation: 3 x 365 = 1095.
                     3 x 5 = 15
                     3 x 60 = 180
                     3 x 300 = 900
                     900 + 180 + 15 = 1095

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1 | Day 3 | Activity 2

Today I completed the second activity for day 3 of week 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity we had to find three pros and cons (Positive and Negative) things about being a DOC Ranger. This challenge was quite hard as you couldn't find all of the pros and cons that you needed, so you would have to imagine yourself in the scenario that you are a DOC Ranger, and think of what you would do.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 2 | Activity 2

Today, I completed activity 2 of week 1 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, I needed to find 3 different New Zealand Sports Teams that included the word "Fern" in their name. Along with that, we needed an image of their team wearing their uniform next to the name. This activity was not too hard, although it was a challenge to find a third team as I was left for a solid 2 minutes searching for a team.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 2 | Activity 1

Today, I completed the first activity for day 2, week 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to write a blogpost explaining whether we would want to visit Tane Mahuta (The Lord Of The Forest). Yes I would want to visit Tane Mahuta one day. As it shows my respect for the native life in New Zealand. As he is the "Lord Of The Forest", and the size of the tree would be fascinating in a way. It is enormous in size, and I would want to see the peak towering over me.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 3 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day 3 week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to make about blogpost that showed our tips on how to avoid being stressed out, or depressed. We needed to say what we do in a stressful moment, and how much it can change you. So here are my tips, that I use to avoid stressful situations.

Tip 1: "Ignore"  You may have heard this from someone before, and think that it's impossible. My way that I would ignore stressful situations is to play an instrument. The most common way that I would become stressed out would my brother. So whenever he's nagging me, and giving me a hard time, I would go into my room an play electric guitar until I've calmed down. Although you don't need real instruments to do this, instead you could grab two spoons, and hit them together to make a chiming noise. Just make sure that you're being quiet when doing so.

Tip 2: "Create" My second bit of advice would be to create something, whether it's a piece of art, a piece of music, or a game, anything will help, and this is really effective to avoid what makes you mad or sad.

Tip 3: "Imagine: My final tip is to imagine, to be in your own world for maybe ten minutes, or more until you're back to your original self. In your own world, anything goes the way you want it to, and nothing can stop you from being who you want to be, and who you are.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 2 BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day 2 of week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to write a poem about the four men, who flew across the Tasman from Australia, to New Zealand, and as if we were one of them. I really liked this activity, and I like how to finishing product turned out.

Poem:

         We've started the engine, and are ready to take off, to fly;
         Across the Tasman from Australia to New Zealand, in the sky;

         Although, after a while, it became a rough flight, as it started all well, until it was not a nice sight;
         It was cold, and stormy, and became harder me, and the other three;
         And our jumpers weren't enough, to keep us warm from the breeze;

        Until after many hours, after fighting the cold, we landed, history was made, and our story was told.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 2 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day 2 of week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity we needed to look at the Art Deco artistic style of painting, and give our opinions on an example of that style. We were not given the name of the painting, and I still couldn't find it after researching.

My Rating: 5/5
My Reason: The reason as to why I give this painting a high vote, is because of the detail. There is big difference from this photo, to it without highlights, and shading. Without it, it would capture the realism, and would look generally boring.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 2 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day 2 week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to watch one of these two silent film trailers, and make our prediction on what the movie is about. If you want to watch the two trailers, here are the links to them: The Lion's Cage : Gold Rush
The one I chose to watch was the Lion's Cage, and I think I have the correct answer to what the movie trailer was about. My guess as to what the movie was about is that there is a man who got trapped in a Lion Cage, and he wants to escape without awaking the lion. He tries to open the door from the inside, but instead ends up pushing the door's board lock trapping the man inside. After multiple attempts to leave, the lion wakes up from its sleep, petrifying the man. The lions wasn't alarmed or scared, so it attempts to go back to sleep. Someone then notices the man trapped, and sets him free. The End.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to blog about our favourite food, and explain why we like it. My favourite food is a hash brown, and the reason why I like it is because it has a very nice flavour, and it can be cooked soft, or crunchy.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity we needed to draw ourselves doing our dream job. My dream job is to be a digital animator, and that's why you can see me holding a pen, and drawing on a drawing tablet. This took quite a while to draw, but in the end, I don't think it turned out that well, but it's good enough.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 2 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to compare our own house, to a Wharepuni. (This is where the Maori people would sleep). We needed to show two similarities, and two differences. So here we go.

Similarities:
Both a Wharepuni and my house have a roof and walls.
Both a Wharepuni and my house have windows and a door.

Differences:
A Wharepuni has carvings, and my house doesn't.
My house has a second story, while a Wharepuni does't.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 2 | BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day two of the holiday blogging challenge. For this activity, we had to look at what activities / attractions there are at the Sky Tower. We had to choose one of these activities, and explain why we would like to do that, and how much it would cost. If I go take part in any of these activities, I would do the SkyJump / Bungee Jump. I chose this because I've always dreamt of one day bungee jumping, and I think that it would allow me to be more confident with challenging activities. It would cost a child $175, and an adult $225.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 2 | Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day two of the holiday blogging challenge, and for this activity, we had to create a new mascot replacing Scotty, the Sky Tower's mascot. I named my character Joby, and I decided to make my mascot like Scotty with the Sky Tower body.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 2 | Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day two of the holiday blogging challenge, and for this activity, we had t create a DLO. Our DLO needed to include 5 facts about the Sky Tower, so what I did for this activity was make a google presentation, with both a fact on each slide, and an image that I created with it.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 2 | BONUS ACTIVITY

For the bonus activity for day 2 of the Winter Learning Journey, I had to pretend I was interveiwing a family member of mine about what they enjoy doing out-doors. We had to list five of them and put them on our blogs. I interviewed my cousin, and these are the things she enjoys doing.
  1.  Climbing trees
  2.  Sunbathing
  3.  Scooting
  4.  Reading
  5.  Walking

Winter Learning Journey: Day 2 | Activity 2

For the second activity of day 2 for the Winter Learning Journey, I learnt about a girl named Laura Dekker who sailed around the entire world. So what I was told to do for this activity was to think of 5 question I would ask if I could meet Laura Dekker. There was a video we could watch about Laura Dekker, but I decided to have fun and do the activity with no information about her except for what she did.

Question 1: What risks came from you sailing around the entire world?

Question 2: Did you have any way to communicate to other people?

Question 3: How long did this trip take?

Question 4: What food and drink did you have on your boat?

Question 5: Were you sick when you finished your trip?

Winter Learning Journey: Day 2 | Activity 1

For the first activity of day 2 for the Winter Learning Journey, I had to pretend I went to the three places, Rangitoto, Kareka Beach, and Tane Mahuta. I had to write down what my favourite places were (As if I really went there) and the reason why.

My most favourite place: My favourite place I pretended to visit was Rangitoto. The reason why was because I had then just found out that Rangitoto emerged from the sea 600 years ago, and is the youngest volcano!

My second most favourite place: My second most favourite place I pretended to visit was Tane Mahuta. The reason why was because it is the place of the oldest kauri tree.

My third most favourite place: My third most favourite place I pretended to visit was Kareka Beach. The reason why was because filmmakers like Jane Champion, Barry Barclay and Niki Caro have set major films there.
