Tech: Woodwork | Term 4

Today we had the next session of tech at Tamaki College. This term the year 8's have been doing Woodwork with Mr Grundy, and it is about now when people have almost finished their projects. Today at tech, I have finally started to glue all of my pieces of wood together to form the shape of my truck that I will be creating. Although as most of this session was me waiting for the glue to dry, I decided to help my peers to help the time pass. Next week I will be working on attaching my wheels to my truck, and doing the finishing touches.

Tech: Final Session For Cooking

Today we had our final session of food tech. Before I talk about what we cooked, I would like thank Miss Heka for each session she has provided for us. She has been a great cooking teacher, and I have enjoyed each second of our sessions. Today we cooked Fish Cakes. It was a lot of fun, and with the spice included packed quite a punch. Unfortunately I am not the greatest fan of spice, although I loved the flavour of this dish. I am sad to leave food tech so soon, although I am quite excited to move on to the next rotation.

Tech: Cooking | Week 4

Today we had the next session of tech, although again unfortunately Miss Heka was absent. So this meant that we were doing another worksheet. The worksheet we did today included a wordfind, a blank page where we could draw a pizza, a page with actions that we needed to label, and a page that showed an image and we needed to circle each hazard in the image. Unfortunately it was not as fun as it would've been to cook something, but it was still a fun session.

Tech: Returning To Tech For Term 3

Today we had our first session of tech for term 3 this year. Unfortunately Miss Heka was not here today so instead Miss Elice was here to give us worksheets to fill out. The worksheet was about Greece and the history of food there. We started by reading a few pages that gave us a bunch of information about the topic. Then we got our first few questions. After that there were a few pages which all contained a wordfind. That was as far as we got into the worksheets, there were still a few pages remaining, but I managed to complete 1 wordfind in the time we were given. Although we couldn't do cooking I still had fun.

Tech: Food Tech

Today we had our second session of food tech, although today Miss Heck couldn't make it to Tamaki College, so instead we filled out a worksheet based on cooking. In the worksheet, we had two crosswords, a fill in the blank page, name the equipment, name the action, and a picture where we needed to circle each hazard. Although I would've enjoyed a regular tech session, I still had fun.

Tech: Final Session Of Metal Work

Today, we had our final session of tech for our first rotation. In this rotation, we could create either a pizza cutter, or a cake server, I chose to create a pizza cutter, and I am very happy with the end result. I had a lot of fun over the last term, and I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Naicker for teaching us, and to Mr Tom and Mr Dunn for taking over for the last 2 weeks. In today's session, we finished the final details for our project, along with filling out our planning paper. The final step was a little test. In the test, we received two small pizza's, and a cake that we would test the pizza cutters and cake servers ability. I would like to say one more thank you to our teachers before we move into the next class.

Tech: Metal Work | Session 9

Today, we had our first session of tech for term 2. We have started this term off by continuing on last terms work to get our projects finished. In my group, we have been doing metal work with Mr Naicker, and today I was working on my blade for the pizza cutter I have been working on for now 9 sessions. I am now up to the final stage of my pizza cutter, as next week I will be putting my handle and blade together to finalise the project. I have had a lot of fun working with Mr Naicker for the previous term, and I am glad that he taught us everything we needed to know in order to do metal work.

Tech: Metal Work | Week 7

Today we had our week 7 session of tech. Our focus this term is metal work. What we are creating in tech is either a pizza cutter (Which is what I'm creating) or a cake server. So far, I am up to finishing the blade to my pizza cutter, and I have completed my handle. What it is I am doing to my blade is filing it with the file, and sanding it with rough grit sandpaper. I am having a lot of fun in tech, and I am excited to finally finish what I have been working on. It is going to be of great use at home whenever we order or make pizza for lunch and dinner. I want to thank our tech teacher Mr Naicker for all he has done for us.

Tech: Metal Work

Today, we had our fourth session of tech. This week, I have been sanding my handle. I have used both rough, and smooth sandpaper to polish my handle to the best of my ability. Next week, once I have finished sanding and polishing, I may move on to putting my pizza cutter disc blade onto my handle to make my pizza cutter complete.

Tech: Graphics | Creating Our Designs

Today we had our next session of tech in graphics. In this session we continued to create the design of our phone stands. Although unfortunately, last week I was away sick, so I had quite a bit to catch up on. The design choice of mine was a cat lying down, with a gap in it's back as a slot for a phone, and the tail to support it. To create these phone stands, we used a website called Tinkercad. With this website, you can create a model to 3D print. This involves different colour choices, different design possibilities, and a simple layout. This session of tech was a very fun one. We were roughly never stopped when creating, allowing us to use as much of the time we had to create. We could choose whatever design we wanted, and loved seeing what other people have created.

Tech: Digitech | Evaluation Of My Animated Story

In the context of in the neighbourhood I will design and produce an animated story for children | 5 - 8 years olds to be used to show my audience target the everyday things that happen in the neighbourhood as kids.
My animated story is still currently under construction. May you please help me by giving me feedback on my conceptual design of my animated story.

Tech: Digi Tech | Working On Our Animated Stories

Today, we had yet another session of tech. In tech, we have been learning how to code, in order to create an animated story talking about something in the neighbourhood.  My story is based around a game show. This show is run by a wizard named Genero, whom captures his contestants. They must answer 3 questions correctly to be granted their freedom. The way that this relates to in the neighbourhood is that this show is watched on local T.V all throughout the contestants neighbourhood. I have planned everything out for this animation, and I am near completion for this project.

Tech: DigiTech Project - Initial Planning

Today we had our third session of DigiTech. In this session, we were to complete the following tasks:

Context Brainstorm
Conceptual Statement - To Be Completed Next Week
Planning Timeframes

Although before we began working on any of those tasks, we first started off with a Kahoot to refresh our memory with what we will be doing whenever we visit DigiTech. Following that, we moved onto our tasks for this session. We started off by creating a Content Brainstorm. The purpose of the Content Brainstorm is to show nearby locations in Tamaki that we could add into an animated story. Next came the Conceptual Statement. The purpose of the Conceptual Statement is to explain why we are creating this animated story, and what our main target of age groups are. Finally, the Planning Timeframe. The purpose as to why we have done the Planning Timeframe is to sort our different tasks into groups of topics when it comes to showing what we are doing. For example, Planning, Researching, and Evaluating. It also includes the estimated time as to how long it took for us to complete a certain task.

Tech: DigiTech Session 1

This week for tech, we began on our first session of DigiTech for the year 7's. Ms Anderson is our DIgiTech teacher, and she is really nice, with a great personality. This term for DigiTech, we are focusing on coding an animated story with Scratch. A small but large website that allows you to make billions of coded item. For instance games, animations, and more. Although before heading into that, we played a small game that included basic coding. It was based on the Disney animated movie Moana. I have not seen this movie, but know the small details about it. In this game, our task was to make it to a certain position through coding our way through. There were 19 levels to play through, although most people made it through around 11 levels, although I made it through 15. We all had a lot o fun for our first session of DigiTech, and I personally can't wait to begin on our Scratch project, as I know how to code with it. I hope that session 2 has even more to bring.

Tech: Sanding My Pewter Design | Pewter Casting

This week at tech, we continued sanding our pewter designs. This week was the best week for me, as I got through 3 different design states. Now I am up to the point where I sand my design with a 1200 grit piece of sandpaper, with water, to get rid of all of the dust on the pewter. I made a DLO (Digital Learning Object) to explain two things. What I managed to complete that day, and what I have to do next time. I had a little bit of time before I had to post it, so I drew a picture as well to show what I had done.

Tech: Pewter Casting | Third Session

Today, we had our third session of Pewter Casting in Tech. This session was all about getting our moulds ready, and cutting them out. But before we could do any of that, we needed to choose a design. I did not make a post about the previous tech session, but it is simple to explain. We needed to choose our 16 designs, and make the decision of who we're making it for, and what we're making. I chose to make a pewter dolphin for my mum, and I think that I'm off to a good start. Just today, I started my cut out of the dolphin, and now only need to cut out the fins, and nose. I then needed to have the pewter melted into a liquid, where it could then be poured into my mould. The next couple of weeks would then consist of polishing, and filing the finishing product. Where it could then be taken home, and given to the recipient, (In this case, my mum).

Tech: Pewter Casting | First Session

Today, we had our first session of tech. For tech this term as year 7's, our focus was on Pewter Casting. Pewter, is a type of metal, that can bend easily when thin. It can be melted into a liquid form in about only 1 minute, and dries in about 5. What we did for this tech session, was to think of designs to make a cast out of, and give to someone we respected. We were also given a demonstration by our tech teacher, Mr Grunden. Mr Grunden is a cool teacher, he informs us about what to do, and adds in quite a few jokes when doing so. I really liked this first session, although we didn't do much, it was still fun and exciting to see the pewter casting method in action.
