Inquiry: Celebrations Around The World

L.I: To develop an understanding of the different elements of Matariki

This week as another activity to our Matariki learning, I did the celebrations all around the world activity. We had to find the celebrations from 5 countries and say when they are. As an extension I decided to draw a picture of the things that represent the celebrations.

Tamaki Wrap Activity

Today we did an activity with the Tamaki Wrap group. They talk about plastics, and how they effect the environment. We were set up into 4 groups, and each group did a different activity.
Each activity explained what plastic is doing to our world we live in. There was an activity where we learnt about how much rubbish Auckland itself produces a week, it turns out that Auckland can fill and entire AFL STADIUM!
Another activity talked about plastic in our oceans, specifically what they do and how they get in there. We learnt about how turtles eat our plastic thinking it's food, later on they can die.
The third activity Tamaki Wrap did with us was learning about how we can use things like plastic bags again for other uses.

The last activity we did with Tamaki Wrap was to make a poster about images around us that don't contain any plastic.

Reading: Questioning

L.I: to interact and comprehend a range of narrative texts

This week for reading we read in our book (Danny The Champion Of The World) chapters 15 - 19. The activity I chose was to pretend that we could ask questions to the main characters in the story. I did this activity with Alex, and we chose to make the characters excluding Mrs Clipstone (Because it was a difficult character).

Maths: Protractor Measurement

L.I: to understand how to measure the angle of an object.

(Halves, Thirds, Quarters, Fifths, Sixths, Tenths, and we were supposed to do Twelfths, but there were no twelfth sectors of a circle).

Inquiry: Pieces And Technological Systems

L.I: To identify and adapt a piece of technology.

This week for inquiry, we continued our learning about pieces of technology, and technological systems. A piece of technology is an item created by humans, to make life easier. A technological system is something also created by humans, but transforms an input, into an output. We had to make 3 presentations about a piece / system of technology in our homes, the community, and around the entire world.

CyberSmart: Smart Commenting

L.I: to write a smart comment on other peoples blogs.
L.I: to comment on other schools blog-posts.

This week for cyber smart, we did more smart commenting. We did another person at Tamaki Primary's blog post, and commented on someone in LS2. A smart comment is a comment that includes these things. A positive attitude, a question, encouragement, and a formal greeting.

Maths: Measurement Of Time

LI: to identify the units of time in order from shortest to longest.
LI: to learn how to measure time.

This week for maths, we learnt about measuring time. To do so, we got our entire group to run the distance of the hall, the netball court, and the small school field. We then wrote down the times of each person, and in the end we added the times together for each place we ran.
