Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 : Week 2 | Activity 3

Today I completed the third activity to day 1 of week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we had to find out whether 5 given fish facts were true or false by using our smart searching skills that we have learnt in class. This challenge was fairly easy, although the hardest fact to answer had to be fact 4.

Fish Fact #1: The oldest known fish in the world is a 65 year old Australian lungfish. FALSE
Fish Fact #2: Sharks are the only fish that have eyelids. FALSE
Fish Fact #3: Starfish are a type of fish. FALSE
Fish Fact #4: Fish communicate with each other by making low-pitched sounds (moans, hisses, etc) TRUE
Fish Fact #5: Fish usually swim together in groups called ‘classes.’ TRUE

Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 : Week 2 | Activity 2

Today I completed the second activity for day 1 of week 2 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we are given a free ticket to the Lake Taupo Cycle Race. We are allowed to bring 3 people to act as our support crew. Who will we bring, and why? I would bring my family which includes my mum, dad, and brother. I would choose them as they support me through every big moment I go through, and I would want them to see me, as it would encourage me to go further.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 : Week 2 | Activity 1

Today I completed the first activity of day 1 of week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity we needed to think of something that we like to do in the Summer. Once thought of we would post a picture showing us doing it. I thought of playing on parks, as during the Summer time in school, I tend to enjoy that activity. It keeps me in shape, there are different things I can do on a park, and I find it a great way to spend time.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 1 | BONUS Activity

Today I completed the bonus activity for day 1, week 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, you needed to fill in a footprint with different things that you should do to stay safe online. Why a footprint, well this symbolises our digital footprints. This challenge wasn't that hard although it was fun, and got my brain right to work.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 1 | Activity 2

Today I completed the second activity for day 1, of week 1 of the Summer Learning Journey for 2018 and 2019. In this activity, we needed to describe Auckland, and where we live with different adjectives. This activity took very little time to complete.

Auckland is a magnificent place. Known as the city of sails, with an attractive appearance, and great views, it can be called a great place to be apart of. I live in Pakuranga, and I love it there. We have elegant facilities, and great people in the community. I am always eager to get out into the community and see what I can do that's new to me, or exciting. I live right in front of the Tamaki River, and when the tide is up it's the best to go for a swim.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1 | Day 1 | Activity 1

Today, I completed the first activity for day 1, week 1 for the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we had to go to the Fun Facts About New Zealand website, and find 3 interesting facts to blog. This challenge was fairly easy, but I found a few things out, while knowing the rest.

Fact 1: In New Zealand, you must drive on the left side rather than the right.

Fact 2: The largest city in New Zealand is Auckland, although it isn't that capital.

Fact 3: There are no snakes in the country.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 1 BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day 1 week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to read a poem named In Flanders Fields, and give our thoughts on it. After reading this poem, it really did remind me about tragedies that occurred in World War 1, and the fight they pulled off for our freedom. I do like this poem, and it must've taken time in the making of it.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2: Day 1 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day 1 of week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey, and for this activity we needed to write a blog post that explained our perspective about women rights to vote in Saudi Arabia. We needed to write about what we think when we hear that women could vote until 2015.

In my opinion, it was not fair. Only hearing that women in Saudi Arabia couldn't vote until 2015 instantly grabs my attention. Everyone on this earth should have their own rights, even if they are different. Such little differences between people shouldn't change the perspective of others towards someone, and really should've been changed a long time ago.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 2: Day 1 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for day one of week 2 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to find a picture of a famous Cathedral, and blog about it. We needed to blog it's name, where it is located, how long it took to build, and hen it was finished. We couldn't do it on the St Joseph's though, so I chose to do it on the Notre Dame.

Image of Cathedral:
Information:

Name: Notre Dame

Location: Paris

Building Time: Almost 200 Years!

When Finished: In 1163

Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for day 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to watch a video of the Waka Ama race. We needed to say in our blogpost whether we would like to do it, and why.

Here's my answer:
I would enjoy this type of race. It gets you outside, and includes a lot of strength. The reason on why I would love to do something like this is because I love Kayaking, and this race shares a lot of similarities to it.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day one of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we had to pretend that we were one of the few people that travelled to New Zealand. We needed to write a small note about how we would feel about leaving our homeland, and travelling to a whole new place.

Note: I am one of the few people who are leaving my homeland, to go to a new country. I don't know how this whole scenario will turn our, but I hope that if there are people there, they are friendly. I have just said goodbye to my family, entered one of the waka's, and I'm now setting sail. I hope that I make it there safe, and that I don't have to fight for any land to take ownership of.

Summer Learning Journey: Day 1 Activity 1

Today, I did the first activity for day 1 of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity, we needed to find three facts about Maui's giant fish. This is a well known Maori story, and it has become today's activity. We had to find these facts from This Site, and then had to blog all three.

Fact 1: Maui is well known for catching one of the biggest fish ever seen. Although his brothers never thought he would catch even a bit of seaweed! Maui showed them otherwise, he had used an ancestors jawbone, and his own blood as bait.

Fact 2: After Maui had caught this humongous fish, he told his brothers to stay by the fish, and to guard it as he went to alert his village people. Instead, as Maui left the two brothers alone, they rapidly attacked the fish, claiming chunks of it as their own. Once Maui had arrived back, he, and other people saw the greedy brothers.

Fact 3: After centuries of time, this fish eventually became the land known as the North island of Aotearoa, and Maui's canoe became the South island.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 1 | BONUS ACTIVITY

Today I did the bonus activity for the first day of the holiday blogging challenge created by our school leaders. This activity was about also about Rainbows End, and for this activity we had to watch a YouTube video, and choose a Rainbows End ride that we would recommend to a friend. I chose the Dodgems, and I recommended the ride to my friend Alex.

25 Word Summary:
Dodgems are fun, and are safe, but sometimes quite intimidating. I would recommend this to Alex, because I think he would enjoy crashing into people.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 1 | Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for the first day of the holiday blogging challenge created by our school leaders. This activity was about also about Rainbows End, and there was 2 things to find out. They were, how tall do you have to be to ride the Stratosfear? And, why do you think they have a height restriction? The answer to the first question is 150cm tall for very extreme, and 130cm tall for less extreme. My answer to the second question is, the reason why I think there is a height restriction to the rides is because for most of the rides, the safety bar can be a bit high for some people, and if they were to go on, they have a big change of falling of their seats.

Holiday Blogging Challenge: Day 1 | Rainbows End

Today I did the first activity for the first day of the holiday blogging challenge created by our school leaders. This activity was about Rainbows End, and there was 3 things to find out. They were, where is Rainbows End located in Auckland, and the answer to that is Manukau. The second thing to find out was how much does it cost for a family pass, and the answer to that is that there are multiple prices depending on how many people are going. If there are 2 adults and 1 kid, then that costs $167, and 2 adults and 2 children costs $216. So for every child that's an extra $49, but that's only for gate sales, for online sales, I've added an image that would tell you all the prices. The third thing to find out was how much would it cost for your family to go. Because in my family, there is my mum and dad, and my brother and I, it would cost $216 for my family to go.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 1 | BONUS ACTIVTY

For day 1 of the Winter Learning Journey, my bonus activity was to make my own New Zealand flag. This was done because of the time when John Key attempted to change our New Zealand flag. I made my flag with google drawing and found an image of a silver fern so I can get a reference and I did the same with a picture of New Zealand.

Winter Learning Journey: Day 1 | Activity 2

For the second activity of day 1 of the Winter Learning Journey, we had to watch a video that talks about Auckland. We then had to think of our top 5 favourite facts, and list them.

Fact 1: Auckland has the most boats per capita in the world!

Fact 2: Rangitoto can be seen from all around the city.

Fact 3: No matter where you go in Auckland there will always be water near.

Fact 4: Maori ancestors sailed here about a 1000 years ago.

Fact 5: Near the Waitakere Ranges is Piha

The facts above are from the YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qldi00zUxA

Winter Leaning Journey: Day 1 | Activity 1

Today for the Winter Learning Journey my first activity was to find three facts about New Zealand, and write them down in our own words.

Fact 1: 14.6% of New Zealand's population are Maori, that's 14.6% out of 4.4 MILLION people!

Fact 2: Before the atom was split in the earlier times of the 20th century, a lot of inventions had been created by Maori people in their backyards!

Fact 3: Because there is a lot of water around New Zealand, it is found that over 15% of New Zealand families own a boat.

The information that has been written above is by the website: http://www.newzealand.com/us/feature/new-zealand-people/
