Reading: Questioning

L.I: to interact and comprehend a range of narrative texts

This week for reading we read in our book (Danny The Champion Of The World) chapters 15 - 19. The activity I chose was to pretend that we could ask questions to the main characters in the story. I did this activity with Alex, and we chose to make the characters excluding Mrs Clipstone (Because it was a difficult character).

Maths: Protractor Measurement

L.I: to understand how to measure the angle of an object.

This week for maths, we learnt how to measure the angle of something with a protractor. To do so we got with a partner / group, and had to make presentation about the angles of fractions of a circle. (Halves, Thirds, Quarters, Fifths, Sixths, Tenths, and we were supposed to do Twelfths, but there were no twelfth sectors of a circle).

Inquiry: Pieces And Technological Systems

L.I: To identify and adapt a piece of technology.

This week for inquiry, we continued our learning about pieces of technology, and technological systems. A piece of technology is an item created by humans, to make life easier. A technological system is something also created by humans, but transforms an input, into an output. We had to make 3 presentations about a piece / system of technology in our homes, the community, and around the entire world.

CyberSmart: Smart Commenting

L.I: to write a smart comment on other peoples blogs.
L.I: to comment on other schools blog-posts.

This week for cyber smart, we did more smart commenting. We did another person at Tamaki Primary's blog post, and commented on someone in LS2. A smart comment is a comment that includes these things. A positive attitude, a question, encouragement, and a formal greeting.

Maths: Measurement Of Time

LI: to identify the units of time in order from shortest to longest.
LI: to learn how to measure time.

This week for maths, we learnt about measuring time. To do so, we got our entire group to run the distance of the hall, the netball court, and the small school field. We then wrote down the times of each person, and in the end we added the times together for each place we ran.

Writing: Narrative Commenting

L.I: to write a narrative.
L.I: to Buddy conference to start to edit and check writing.
This week for writing, we had to buddy check a persons narrative they had been writing the past week. Our prompt for our narrative for our groups was about a monster that comes from his swamp on Halloween night, so we all knew what things would most likely happen in another persons story. We had to comment on our partners narrative about bad things that need to be changed from what they currently were.

Reading: Danny The Champion Of The World | Research The Author

L.I: to interact and comprehend a range of narrative texts.

This week for reading we read chapters 10-14 of Danny The Champion of The World. An activity I did this week was research the author. We would get information about the person who wrote the story / text, and write it down in our own words. I did this activity with my friend Alex, and we both had lots of fun doing so.

Inquiry: Compare And Contrast | Pieces Of Technology VS Technological Systems

L.I: to compare a piece of technology with a technological system by similarities and differences.

This week for inquiry, we have been learning about pieces of technology, and technological systems. A piece of technology is an item created by humans, to make life easier, and a technological system is something also created by humans, but transforms an input, into an output. We needed to compare the differences, and similarities of a piece of technology of our choice around the class, and a technological system of our choice around the class.

Reading: 10 Words That I Don't Know | The Definition Of 5

L.I: to interact and comprehend a range of narrative texts

This week for reading, we read from chapters 4-9 of Danny The Champion Of The World, and had to do another activity about the chapters you read. This week I chose to do the activity about what words I don't know the meaning of, and the meaning of 5 of them. Writing: Narrative Hook

L.I: to plan a narrative.

This week for writing, we had to write our hook for our narrative we are writing. A hook is a few sentences that draws attention to the reader, to interest them into reading the rest of the story. You can also use the problem as the hook as well, which is what I did, but it is a hard challenge to complete without making a short version of the entire story. Our hook needed to still relate to the story though, so that it doesn't make the reader interested by a hook with a different topic to the actual story.

My Hook:

BOOM!! Jack’s body exploded by the toxic slime. Jill and Bailey both started to shoot, as Jill’s bullets sling through the slime that reconnects together each time. Jill knows what she needs to do…

Maths: Measuring The Volume Of A Liquid Container

L.I: to learnt how to measure liquid volume.

This week for maths we learnt about how to measure a liquid container's volume. 1 mL is also the same space as 1cm cubed. We had to find 4 images of a liquid container with the amount of millilitres on the side, and convert that into litres. e.g 147mL is the same as 0.147mL. We needed to attribute the images by who took / made the photo, and the licence a.k.a what you can do with the image.

Inquiry: Pieces Of Technology, And Technological Systems

L.I: to define a piece of technology and to define a technological system.

This week as an extension to our inquiry lesson, we learnt about what a piece of technology is, and what a technological system is. A piece of technology is an item that has been developed by humans to make things easier. A technological system is also something made by humans to make things easier, but to do so you have to put in an input, and it will transform it into a output. The activity we did was to sort out a bunch of pictures into groups of pieces of technology, and technological systems.

CyberSmart: Smart Commenting

L.I: To make and post a smart comment.

This week as a short lesson for CyberSmart, we learnt about what a smart comment is, and how to create one. We had to find someone that did the same work as us and blogged it, and made sure they weren't a friend of ours, and we needed to be positive in our comment.
A smart comment needs to include these things: A positive attitude, 1 or more questions, encouragement, feedback, and a formal greeting e.g Greetings / Hello / Good morning / afternoon. The greeting isn't casual like, e.g Hey / Sup / Hi / Hey, like you would say to your friends.

My Comment:

Maths: Measuring Volume Around The Class

L.I: to find and measure volume

This week for maths we learnt about what volume in measurement is, and how to find it in a shape or object. Our task was to find four 3 dimensional rectangular objects around the class, measure them, and then write down the volume on a presentation. To find the volume in an object, you need to measure the width, height and depth of it, and multiply the measurements together to get the volume. On our presentation we needed to write down what we measured, and either take a photo of it, or make an image of it yourself.

Reading: Danny The Champion Of The World / Setting Description

L.I: to interact and comprehend a range of narrative texts

This week we read chapters 1-4 of Danny The Champion Of The World, by Roald Dahl. We are going to be reading more chapters each week, and in each week we are going to do an individual activity about the chapters you read. This week I did an activity where you make a setting description that's from the story, and illustrate the what you can see.

Writing: Completed Narrative Planning

L.I: to plan a narrative

This week for writing we had to finish our plan for our next narrative. We had already done our character and setting descriptions done, so we knew what was going to happen in the story, and were it would take place. At the start of the term we planned our the main things the story needed to include. It needed to include the characters Jack, Jill and the monster, and include the settings the basement and the swamp. The problem needed to stay as Jack dies by the monster, and the solution needed to stay as Jill kills the monster, and there souls transfer, resulting in Jack being resurrected. Although we could add more characters, places, and times in the story, and also put more detail into the problem and solution. What hadn't been planned by all groups was the events, that's what we did completely individually.

Maths: Measuring Area

L.I: To identify the area of a rectangle and to measure it.

This week for maths we learnt about what area is, and how to find it. An activity we did was to get a piece of grid paper, and draw pretend playgrounds on it, but we just drew rectangles and squares. We then switched our grid paper with someone else, and had to try to figure out the area of each playground by how many squares could fit in them. I switched with Alex, and these were the areas of each playground.

Playground A= Width x Height=Area 180 squares.
Playground B= Width x Height=Area 8 Squares.
Playground C= Width x Height=Area 6 Squares.
Playground D= Width x Height=Area 1 Square.
Playground E= Width x Height=Area 1 Square.
Playground F= Width x Height=Area 1 Square.
Playground G= Width x Height=Area 8 Squares.
Playground H= Width x Height=Area 20 Squares.
