Maths: Finding The Missing Angles | Week 8

This week for maths, we were asked to fill out a sheet of paper.. This paper contained multiple angle problems, that we needed to fill out. These were triangle problems, including different varieties of triangles. From equilateral, to isosceles, to right / left angled triangles. What we were asked to do, was examine each triangle, and find out what other angles are left out. There are a lot more details in my DLO, so if you want to know more, you can take a look at that.

Assembly: Duffy Assembly | Getting Our Books

Today, we had our first Duffy assembly of the year. A Duffy assembly, is like a normal assembly, but instead, there would be two representatives from Duffy, that would talk about their life story that all started because of reading. They would then present our Duffy books that we selected at the start of the term. We all chose 4 books, and we would explain which books we wanted in order of how much we wanted to read them. We would then get 2 of those books at the assembly. We chose 4 books, just in case if Mainfreight (The ones who give us the books) run out of stock for the specific book. The 2 books that I received was Wandmakers Apprentice, and Amulet The Stonekeeper. The Amulet series is one of my favourite series of all time, so i'm glad that the series was an option. Although Wandmakers is a new series to me, in which I have never read a Wandmaker story. We all thank Mainfreight for giving these books to us, and we will all enjoy reading.

Writing: 5 - 7 - 10 Writing | Week 8 | The Tunnel

This week for writing, we were asked to write a description for our 5 - 7 - 10 Writing. 5 - 7 - 10 Writing is when you write as much as you possibly can for 5 minutes. Then you would talk about your story to a friend, and read your story to them. You would do this for 7 minutes. Finally, you would edit, and complete your story in 10 minutes, and have it shown to your teacher. Although unlike last times 5 - 7 - 10 writing, we were to write a setting description, rather than a character description. Our subject of this weeks 5 - 7 - 10 was The Tunnel. Which showed a picture of a tunnel  formed by trees in a forest. This was an awesome subject to write about, giving me the perfect opportunity to add in a lot of words that I would never use of a daily bases. Using words like perambulate, rather than walk. This let me write and an epic setting description about the tunnel.

The Tunnel

I see the dark, oak wood trees surround me. There are bushes, expanding around the

trees, and stumps of the forest foreground. The trees curling around the corner of a large

rock, blocking my perspective of the sun. The rough edges of the rock, smoothing the

closer I get. The grass swirling around each tree, growing longer and longer, by the

second. Broken branches then start to heal, growing faster than a cheetah running across

a long, blank, grassy field. “This is a mysterious place,” I say to myself. I then see the

trees arc into a circular formation, forming a tunnel for me to stride through. The tunnel

advanced for a very long time, as if the tail of the tunnel was getting smaller and smaller.

The tunnel then goes dark, as a silence fills the forest. Then the tunnel suddenly brightens

up, and there is a visible door at the very end, with nothing to provide information for

what may be on the other side.

Inquiry: Researching Stephen Hawking

This week for Inquiry, we were asked to make a DLO in a group of 3 or 4 on Professor Stephen Hawking. We were given a set list of questions to answer, and put onto our DLO. They were, who was he, what did he do, what made him famous, what is motor neuron disease, 3 or more facts, what qualities he had, what a physicist is, and how Stephen Hawking's computer functioned. I did this activity with Sanujan, Julian and Alex, and we all had a fair share of work done. Sanujan and I also had quite a bit of fun with this activity, so what we did was draw Professor Stephen Hawking, in the Simpsons art style. We did this because Stephen Hawking has appeared in a Simpson episode.

Maths: Ordering Decimals From Smallest To Biggest

As a part of our maths this week, we were challenged to order a set of decimal numbers from smallest to biggest. The numbers were written on the board, and we needed to transfer them to our books in order. We then were to make a DLO showing our answers. To make this DLO, I worked with Sanujan, and we got it done in a really small amount of time.

Writing: 5 - 7 - 10 Writing | The Greatest Library In History

This week for writing, we again did 5 - 7 - 10 writing. 5 minutes to write as much as you can, 7 minutes to talk about your story to a partners, and 10 minutes to edit, and finish the story. Although, to add a twist to it, we needed to use this time to write a character description. We were given a set prompt, and today's prompt, was about the greatest library. I loved this prompt, because it sparked my imagination, and let me write an awesome story.

The Greatest Library In History

Melissa sets foot into the library, that she had heard great comments about, from her
friends. She lives just across the street from this library, and has wanted to go. The only
thing that was restricting her from going, was that she could only go with her mum or dad,
who both work 24/7. Although, today Melissa’s mum got the day off, and agreed to take
her for half an hour.

Melissa grabs a book, and flicks across the pages as her imagination kicks in. She looks
back at the pages, and reads: The beautiful princess stumbles across a small cottage, and
meets Gumbo, the gumball. Melissa looks back up from the pages, and sees a purple
gumball, waving his hand.

Melissa turns her head, to see a lolly path, leading to a chocolate fountain. She says
goodbye to Gumbo, and skips her way to heaven, only to hear her mum call her name.

Melissa then closes the book, and this magical wonderland, then transforms back into the
library. “Thank you for taking me to the library mum, it was the best day ever.” Melissa
exclaimed.

Maths: Scooter Quest

Today I played a small game about rounding decimal numbers. This game can be found through This Link, so if you want to play the game yourself, you can just click on the link. What you have to do in this game, is deliver news papers to houses. You have to take the correct newspaper, to the correct house, and the way you can know, is by answering the question below. There are 5 houses, each with an answer. Only one of the answers are correct, and you have to make the choice. There are multiple types of questions, from rounding a number to the nearest whole, the nearest tenth, the nearest hundredth, and the nearest thousandth. To make a more specific blog post, I also timed my game play to show in my post.
