This week for inquiry, our must do was to create a DLO about what democracy is, and why we have it, and to create a padlet about what we know about the electoral process. Although, Alex and I were asked if we could create a video, that would teach children about what democracy is. Alex and I decided to create a puppetry / news video. We came up with the name Views Hub, and we created small characters with google draw, and cut them out after printing them. We had a lot of creating this video, and tried to also make it funny. We think that it turned out well, while still giving a lot of information about democracy.

Maths: Whole Group Challenge
L.I: to problem solve
This week for maths, we had to complete our problem solving challenge. As I explained on my maths post I did last week, if one person failed, everyone failed. To stop this from happening, we had to make sure everyone understood the learning. Unfortunatly, we failed, and quite a few people didn't understand the learning, and the required knowledge you needed to solve sertain problems. Although, most people did try their best, and a majority of the group completed this task. There was 4 people who were tested for their knowledge, and 4 people who were randomly chosen to shoe the teacher their work. Some of the tested people did solve the problem they were given, and some didn't. From this challenge, we've learnt about why working together is really important, and we also learnt about how to solve problems.

Can Do: TablesTest
Today I did the first level of TablesTest. TablesTest is a small program that helps you with your times tables, but also helps you with your reflexes. To play TablesTest, you chose your level, press the Let's Go button, and you will be timed for each multiplication question. In total there are ten questions to answer, and I got them all right in 1 - 5 seconds. The challenging part of TablesTest is finding the answer, because there are multiple answers that come up, and you have to find the correct one.

Reading: Women's Suffrage
L.I: To use your smart searching skills help you find information
This week for reading, out must do was to record a 1 minute and 30 second video with our group about the women's suffrage movement. We all wrote scripts for the video, and checked our information to see if it was correct. We planned out what we would say, and planned out what order we would say it in. At first, our group was confused, and we all thought we had 1 minute and 30 seconds EACH to speak. After we were clarified, we got rid of information that wasn't important.

Daily 6: Keyboarding Drills | Level 3
Today I did the third level of our keyboarding drills. Our keyboarding drills help us to understand how to type without looking at our keyboards. I did level three again, because I find it the most challenging, and because of that, it gives us more of an improvement with our touch typing.

Inquiry: Voting Jigsaw
L.I: (There was no L.I)
This week for inquiry, our must do was to complete a jigsaw about the elections coming up. We had to chose multiple parties from the election, find out who the leader of that party is, and get an image of the leader. We then had to find an image of the logo for the party, and an electorate image for that leader, and all of the images had to be free to use, and attributed. I chose to do the four most well known parties, (National which was provided as an example, Labour, New Zealand First, and Green).

Maths: 3 Maths Activities
L.I: to problem solve.
This week for maths, our must do was to complete three tasks. The first task was compulsory, (Meaning it had to be done). For that task, if one person doesn't finish it, they, and everyone else automatically fails. That first task was a mixed problem slide. You had to answer multiple problems, while explaining how you got that answer. The second task was to create an interactive multiplication spreadsheet, that has built in coding, that tells you if you wrote the correct answer down. The third task was to create a 3 dimensional shape, with coding put in to create the shape. For the third activity we created our shapes with Pencilcode. Pencilcode is a free website that can allow you to create drawings while a pencil has codes that you put in. There are 4 main codes that you use. The forward code, (Letting you choose how far the pencil goes directly forwards), the right code, (Letting you choose how far the pencil rotates to the right), the left code, (Letting you choose how far the pencil rotates to the left), and the back code, (Allowing you to go back to where the pencil previously was). Pencilcode always provides you with a already set code for you to change as an example. My shape that I made was a square prism. I started off by creating a square, and then rotating to the left, and going forward, which made a square with a stick coming out of it. I then made another square, but without the right and bottom lines. I then turned to the right, and went back to my first square I created, and looped around it, until I made it to the top left corner of the square. Once I was there, I again turned to the left, and went forwards up to the top left of my entire shape. To do this all, I tried a bunch of angles until my codes met up to what I wanted.

Maths: Transformation Artwork
L.I: to create a piece of art using: rotation, translation, and reflection.
This week for maths, our must do was to create a piece of mathematical artwork. Since we planned out our artwork last week (On This Post), it was now time to create the piece of art. As I wrote on my maths blogpost from last week, we needed to chose what colours we would use, mine being red, green, and blue. My design I chose was a Koru design, with translation at the top, rotation in the middle, and reflection at the bottom of my art. One thing that we needed, was for each colour to have 2 light colours on dark, and 1 dark colour on light. Our artwork was done with, paint, dye (With crayon), and Pastels.

Inquiry: Haiku Poem
L.I: to write a poem about feelings
This week for inquiry, our must do was to create a poem. We had four poems to chose from, a Cinquain poem, a Diamonte poem, a Limerick poem, and a Haiku poem. My choice was a Haiku, a Haiku is a poem made up of 3 lines. They always have the pattern of the first line having 5 syllables, the second having 7 syllables, and the third having 5 syllables. For our poem, we needed to write about a season. The season I chose was Winter, and we also needed a feeling in the poem, mine being unhappy for all the rain and storms.

Writing: Brainstorming Ideas For A Speech
L.I: to create a persuasive speech
This week for writing, we had to brainstorm a plan for our speech that we'll present next term. My topic I chose for my speech was that if you have your birthday on a school day, you can have freetime for the whole day. The application we used to brainstorm was Coggle. Coggle is a free brainstorming website, you brainstorm from branches that all lead to your topic. There are four main branches, and the little details coming from them. My four main branches were the facts about my topic, my opinion to the topic, other peoples possible opinion, and what questions I could ask in my real speech.

Reading: Kate Sheppard Political Poster
L.I: to make connections, identify main ideas, summarise, evaluate and synthesise facts through learning conversations.
This week for reading, we've been learning about the women's suffrage movement. Our must do was to complete two activities that showed a resemblance to the suffrage movement, but we were to only blog one. Below I created a poster about the famous Kate Sheppard, my poster needed to include a balance of imagery and information, so I added in an more artistic part to my poster. To do that, I created my own version of the New Zealand 10 Dollar Note. I had two subheadings, Who Is Kate Sheppard, and What Happened After What She Did.

Inquiry: Poetry Poster
L.I: To identify vocabulary and language features for use in writing a poem about feelings.
This week for inquiry, our must do was to create a poster that showed your understanding of poem patterns, and language features within a poem. We had to chose a poem that we'd seen this week, and create a poster with the patterns that you found, and the language features that you found. The poem I chose was One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, and I found one pattern, and one language feature. The pattern I found was an end rhyme pattern, (When the end of a row rhymes with the last words in the row above, or below. After I'd finished my poster, I realised that I had a lot of empty space left, so to make my poster stand out more, I created a little image for the artistic part of my poster.

Maths: Mathematical Transformation Artwork
L.I: to create a piece of art using rotation, translation, and reflection.
This week for maths, we had to create a plan for a piece of mathematical artwork. Next week we will be creating this artwork, but for this week, planning was our goal. We needed to involve rotation, translation, and reflection in our artwork, using a design of our choice. We also needed to chose what colours we would use, mine being red, green, and blue. Tongan Language Week Activity: Tongan Numbers 1 - 12
This week is Tongan Language Week, so to celebrate, we learnt about basic Tongan. We had get into groups, with one person who considers themselves as a expert at speaking Tongan. We were all put into groups, and the group I was is was with Kaitlyn (our expert), Aung naing, Xavier, Angela, Peter, and Joel. Our task was to with a partner, create a DLO about Tongan numbers, Tongan greetings, singing happy birthday, maths words, the Tongan national anthem, or a recipe. I worked with Aung naing, and we did Tongan numbers from 1 to 12. The Tongan numbers to 12 are, Taha, Ua, Tolu, Fa, Nima, Ono, Fitu, Valu, Hiva, Hongofulu, Tahataha, Taha ua. What me and Aung naing did was show the number in english, then the number is Tongan, and create images duplicated corresponding to the number.

Writing: Speech Planning
L.I: to create a persuasive speech
This week for writing, we started to prepare for creating a persuasive speech with the topic of our choice. We had to things to do for this weeks work, as a group come up with ideas to write a speech about, and to plan out three of them into a speech. For my ideas, I came up with topics that would effect on me, and my ideas were about what things should change in school. My three topics I chose, was teacher only days being within our time at school, to stop people from plagiarising work, and giving children that have their birthdays on a school day, all day free time. We were all given a template that we would work on, but my plans, they're more like the real speech itself. The reason why I'd done this was to give myself an idea of what I would write when we need to write the actual speech it self.

Persuasive speech plan
My topic: Teacher Only Days.
My argument: Why they should be within school time instead of before.
Audience: Teachers / Principal
How will you greet your audience?
Hello, my name is Jack
|
How will you introduce your topic in a catchy way?
Everyone can’t wait for the weekend, right? Wouldn’t you love it if at random times you didn’t have to go to school? Well that’s why I think that our teacher only days should be within our school year instead of before it starts.
|
Write a rhetorical question to make the audience think about your topic:
Have you ever thought about this, and disagreed with how our school uses it?
|
What is your opinion? Write a statement that clearly states your point of view:
Teacher only days, people think that’s it’s the day that they’ve been blessed, and I agree with that. If people don’t want to be at school, and it’s a teacher only day, children would probably have the time of their life. That’s why teacher only days should be within our time we have at school.
|
List some facts or statistics that support your opinion:
|
Do you have a solution to the problem?
If we can have our teacher only days like this, then children won't say that school is like a PRISON. Also, to the teachers, you wouldn’t have to deal with us as much as you have to.
|
Say your opinion again and warn the audience what will happen if they don’t agree with your opinion.
Can I have a raise of hand to the people that can get bored sometimes at school. Well you don’t have to feel that way if this changed. Children can go home, teachers can talk, etc. Plus teachers can have more time to plan their lessons for the next day of learning.
|
Persuasive speech plan
My topic: Plagiarism
My argument: Why people shouldn’t plagiarise.
Audience: Everyone
How will you greet your audience?
Hello, my name is Jack ...
|
How will you introduce your topic in a catchy way?
Plagiarism, when you hear that word, what do you think of? Is it a disease, is it the newest piece of technology that I haven’t bought yet? No, it’s even worse.
|
Write a rhetorical question to make the audience think about your topic:
Have you ever heard of this terrific word?
|
What is your opinion? Write a statement that clearly states your point of view:
I think that no one should ever plagiarise. It’s one of the worse think you could do, well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration.
|
List some facts or statistics that support your opinion:
Plagiarism means taking the work or credit away from the owner, without consent of ownership, or without consent of showing it off, but still giving credit to the rightful owner.
Plagiarism can come with many consequences that not many people want.
|
Do you have a solution to the problem?
Stop plagiarising, or never start it.
|
Say your opinion again and warn the audience what will happen if they don’t agree with your opinion.
Plagiarism is very dangerous, and if you ever plagiarise, you’ll have pay the price.
|
Persuasive speech plan
My topic: All day free time on your birthday.
My argument: That children that have their birthday on a school day should be allowed to have free time the entire day.
Audience: Teachers / Principal
How will you greet your audience?
Hello, my name is Jack
|
How will you introduce your topic in a catchy way?
Don’t you love it when sometimes at the end of the day, you hear your teacher say “Alright, you guys can have free time for the rest of the day.” Of course you do, because even if you don’t wanna play games, you can continue with your work.
|
Write a rhetorical question to make the audience think about your topic:
Although, what do you like more. Free time, or having your birthday on a school day? Well, what if you could have both of them at the same time.
|
What is your opinion? Write a statement that clearly states your point of view:
I think that if it’s your birthday, and it’s also a school day. You should be able to have free time for the WHOLE DAY!
|
List some facts or statistics that support your opinion:
This is why:
|
Do you have a solution to the problem?
Give children that have their birthdays on a school day something to enjoy.
|
Say your opinion again and warn the audience what will happen if they don’t agree with your opinion.
It’s important to feel special when it’s your birthday, so if you can have free time all day long, then children have fun on their day they’re representing when they were first alive.

Reading: Women's Right To Vote Challenges / Activities
L.I: to create a sketchnote that shows your understanding
This week for reading, we've been learning about the women's suffrage movement. Our must do was to complete two activities that showed a resemblance to the suffrage movement, but we were to only blog one. My two activities I did with Alex, and we're proud of what we've completed. Our work that you can see below was about making a connection with words. We had to define four words, (Suffrage, Vote, Change, and Radical) and use a mixture of shapes to make an image of what that word can define by images. Although me and Alex went one step further, we used a few more shapes and text to make the sketchnote more interesting.

KiwiSport: KiwiSport Week 6
This week for KiwiSport, we learnt about how to properly jump when doing high jump. We learnt the skills, scissor kick action, slightly bent knees, toes pointing up, left arm left leg right arm right leg, and to have our arms going high up. First we started practising our skills over painted lines on the courts, and then we went to the next step. Jumping over mini high jump poles. We could chose how high we wanted the rod to jump over, and I decided to challenge myself by almost going to the highest the rod can go. Me, and the other people that went to a high settings made it over the bar, and we all cheered on each other to try it.
KiwiCan: Week 6 Session Of KiwiCan
This week for KiwiCan, we learnt about self control. We did two games for this session, Bip Bop Bounce, and Hand Circle. To play Bip Bop Bounce you need to get into a circle, and one person with be in the middle. The centre person would point at any person around them, and either say Bip Bop Bounce, or Bounce. If the phrase Bip Bop Bounce is said, whoever is pointed at will have to say bang before the phrase is finished, although when you're pointed at and just the word bounce is said, you have to stay quiet. To play Hand Circle, everyone needed to lay down on their stomachs in a circle. You would need to lift your right hand, and place it over the person to your right hands, left hand. You would then need to lift your left hand, and wrap it over the person to your left hands, right hand.
